Za povprečnega kmeta je bila zato reformacija hud preizkus. Brez zadržkov je mogla navdušiti predvsem tiste, ki so bili manj dojemljivi za manipulacijo, pripravljeni na spremembe in bolj odprte glave. Ena grenkejših epizod Trubarjeve kariere je bil tako spopad z ljudsko (prazno)vernostjo.
