by Terry Goodkind. Yes, I know that the series has been converted into a cable series- The Legend of the Seeker
. That series is terrible. Bad casting, bad acting, superfluous new storylines, unnecessary and really, really dumb changes to the plot and ridiculous costumes (do they think the only fans of this story are pubescent boys?). It needs to be done right. There is A LOT going on in this book, several story lines, each with their own characters.
First, though. Our hero. He is supposed to be young, just reaching marrying age, so we figure early to mid twenties. He is also supposed to be tall and formidably strong. So strong, that he is intimidating in his home setting of the Hartland woods. He's done nothing but physical-type labor his whole life, and we get to see him shirtless a few times, so let's be honest, he needs to be ripped up. Richard- Kellan Lutz
And, honestly, that smile just says "Richard" all day long. Who else do you think can go from killing machine to disarmingly cheerful in a heartbeat?
Kahlan- She is also young, just reaching marrying age (hmmm.... I wonder how THAT will work out for our two main characters...) She is a brunette, with long, long hair. She is beautiful, but somehow visibly dangerous as well. She has lead a simultaneously sheltered and tortured life up to this point, so not just any pretty face will do. We need Eliza Dushku
Gorgeous, but she could totally kill you.
Our crazy old wizard, Zedd- Patrick Godfrey
The boundary warden, Chase- a little bit older, wiser, but still has that whole, I-can-kick-your-butt-all-day-long look about him Eric Bana
Our first view of the Mord Sith, Denna- She is equal parts sensual and psychotic, and I don't think anyone but Maria Bello could do the part any justice.
Darken Rahl- Jason Isaacs Really, is there a better charismatic villain of this generation? The man played both Lucius Malfoy and Captain Hook for crying out loud...
Addie is described as a "handsome" woman with gray and black hair. She is wise beyond any around her, being that she sees with her gift, instead of plain old human eyesight. Angelica Huston
Shota could look like anybody, and when she chooses to present an image of "herself" she is sultry and seductive and a little bit, um, bitchy. Megan Fox anybody?
Queen Milena- OK, so this character is described as being fat. The actress I have picked is NOT fat. She is, however, capable of being so deliciously vicious that she can make your skin crawl. Holland Taylor
Princess Violet- This is an unconventional choice, but I think this little pretty face could just make your blood boil as she grows into the character- Rachel Covey
And for her abused, long suffering, scary-smart playmate that saves the day, Rachel- Emily Evan Rae
