by James Dashner? You probably should, it's pretty good. There's a sequel coming out in just a couple of months, The Scorch Trials
. The crazy thing about this book every being made into a movie- and bet your bottom dollar it will be, eventually- is that there are very few descriptions of anybody. There are some generic descriptions, such as skin color, but nothing specific. That means that these kids can look like anybody. And with that license in mind, I have gone about just picking the people who I think could handle it.
Thomas is our main character. He is described as being average height with brown hair. We also find out he is in pretty good shape and is able to keep up with the runners right off the bat. And scale walls carrying somebody on his shoulder. No biggie. So this has to go to somebody 1) young. 2) famous. 3) strong. Don't hate me. I say Taylor Lautner.
Ahhh!! I know, a Twilight actor. But, seriously, do you know any other teens with muscles like that and the proven ability to be in every single scene of a two hour film? Besides, I think we are all going to have to come to terms with the fact that every one of these Twilight kids is going to be busy for the next few years, and you will see them in a lot of stuff.
Alby is the leader of the group when Thomas arrives. He's friendly and personable, but takes charge when he needs to. I like this kid, Michael B. Jordon (honestly, how can you really live up to that name?) who is picking up a lot of steam.
Newt is Alby's right hand man, so to speak. He is bigger and physically stronger, but ends up being a little... lame when push comes to shove. How about Freddie Stroma?
Gally is the "villain" of sorts. He's not the one oppressing these kids, he's just the jerk of the Gladers. I think Adam Gregory is the guy for this job. Cocky, strong and kind of bad-boy looking.
Chuck, the annoying younger kid that follows Thomas around. Did anybody else picture:
But really, I think someone like Israel Broussard is going to get this gig.
Minho is the Keeper of the Runners. We don't get much of a description of him other than the fact that he appear to be Asian. He's obviously athletic; he has been running during every moment of daylight for nearly two years. I pick Derek Mio.
And, lastly, our sole female of the group, Teresa. She is described as having long, dark hair and is often referred to as being hot. She also is linked in some romantic-type way (we think) to the main star of the show, Thomas. She also has to look like she can keep up with the fight-to-the-death boys all around her. I pick Hazel D'Jan.
