First up, our faeries. The Fair Folk, you might say. Two of them need to be cast, the Faerie Queen and Meliorn. The Faerie Queen isn't described much beyond being beautiful and somehow simultaneously nefarious looking. I really, really like Famke Janssen for this part.
And for her prized, knight, Meliorn, we need somebody strong, brooding, handsome. Not easy to find. Between nerds being the hottest commodity on the block and the slim, slightly feminine look that every actor seems to be striving for, a strong, manly man is hard to come by under the age of 35. But, I think this would be good for Brandon Routh.
Next, Maia, the only other werewolf we really get to know besides Luke. This one is really, really tough. Maia is supposed to be 15, which is really young. Especially for an actress. Most 15 year olds will play a 12 year old, and you have a 18 or 19 year old playing a 15 year old. Add to that the fact that she is black, and it gets even more difficult- there just are not a lot of black actresses getting a lot of attention (sad). I did however find a girl who I think is perfect. She's young and she is adorable. I submit to you, Mariah I. Wilson.
Another Downworlder that we get to spend a lot of time with is Raphael. He's also supposed to be young, but I don't think it's quite as important for him to be as young as Maia. Maia's changing is tragic, but Raphael's backstory is inconsequential to the big picture. He can be a little older. Still slim, and youthful, you know, the typical immortal stuff. I like Shalim Ortiz for Raphael.
Imogen, otherwise known as the Inquisitor. She's a grandmother (or should be... or was... or whatever), but she's still tough. She's the enforcement of the Clave's laws and she takes her job very, very seriously. I like the idea of a severe, harsh woman on the outside, but a soft, motherly type on the inside. I feel like you should just be able to see the pain in her life. I pick Dianne Wiest. She's feminine, but she's played some hard-as-nails roles, and I think she can put on a mask of steel.
And, just for fun, Madam Dorthea. I picture exactly one person when I think of Madam Dorthea, and that is Liz Torres. From the first moment she appears in the book, until the very last, this is the face I see in my head.
