by Scott Westerfeld is a tricky thing, because we need to have "ugly" and "pretty" versions of Tally and Shay. So we need girls that can look gorgeous, but also can be "uglified" for the earlier parts of the story. First up, Tally Youngblood, our main character. She's called "squint" because her eyes are not perfectly round doe eyes, and she complains of her lips being too full. Now, here's the challenge. You try finding a teenager in movies or on TV today who could pass for being ugly. That's what I thought. But, I did find a girl that I think could look normal, and then be totally glammed up once her time comes: Jennifer Stone
Shay presents the same casting problems, but I think I found a girl that could be believable as "skinny": Jenna Boyd
Peris is a whole bunch easier. He's already pretty when the book starts, so he can be played by somebody older, in shape and attractive. And wouldn't you know, there are plenty of those kind of guys floating around in Hollywood. I suggest somebody like Cam Gigandet
David is just a regular kid. But somebody totally likable, who you really, really want to root for. I kind of like this kid Michael Angarano He's starting to get a lot of work, and I would love to see him take on something big.
Dr. Cable is the perfect part for a big name to throw their weight around. She's volatile, she's cunning and she's, of course, pretty. Very pretty, but much older than the kids in the story. I think that Sigourney Weaver is the right woman for this job, I really do.
And, as for Maddy and Az- Maybe Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie could make some cameo appearances? :) What do you think?
