This party has the task to realize the occult welcome of the Muslim immigration under the alibi of the reasonable control of the access through the borders. To realize the betrayal of the apparent goal of the centre-right coalition about the stop of the immigration, the North League party of Umberto Bossi must produce an astounding and astronomical quantity of cretin racist sentences, in order to create a (planned) reaction not only in the left coalition opposed to the centre right one, but also a reaction inside the same apparent ‘anti-immigration’ coalition of Berlusconi. It is just thanks to the alibi of the absurd ‘Nazi-racist’ sentences and proposals of the government ally North League party, that Gianfranco Fini and his party hieararchs can save the face when they gave a political appeasement and opening to the requests of the centre left opposition, when the leftists ask a more “tolerant, welcoming and human” policy towards the immigration. Because “its all North League guilty!”.And the opposition the same? Of course the opposition has the papal task to add gravity to the choreographed sentences of North League party and represent the political, electoral threat used by the Vatican against the centre right government in order to obtain a “more tolerant” policy towards the immigration. Of course Berlusconi welcome this kind of threat because he has just the task to help the invasion of Europe from North Africa, but he needs of course of the alibi of the “Communist threat” which should “stop” him in the parliament and with the “communist use” of the judicial trials against him. Meanwhile he intentionally has to favour the immigration, in order to push away the suspect from him, he has to cry against the “Communist plot” which is paralyzing his government and his ‘anti-immigration’ policies.It is not a mystery so the thousands of times repeated litany in these last sixteen years and referring to Berlusconi: “The more the opposition attack him the more he becomes strong”. This is perfectly true if only you decrypt the true sense of it: “The communist opposition has the task to attack Berlusconi because Berlusconi has to fulfil the communist, internationalist (= catholic) and socialist finality of the same opposition but he needs to appear exactly at the opposite of what he is materially realizing; and so the more he is attacked it is not his person to become more strong, but his occult socialist Vatican Novo Ordo Seclorum goals”.Remember: centre-right coalition destroys the rights in the societies (for example minister Renato Brunetta decrees) in order to put the native white Christians at the same level of the incoming Islamic immigration which is purposely persecuted and deprived of fundamental rights. The anti-Berlusconi opposition has the task to destroy, in the society, using the leftist trade unions, every opposition to the immigration and to stage an ineffective, false, fake opposition to the destruction of the rights pursued by centre-right government. The final goal is the creation of an hard core of fanatic supporters of the trade unions, left and right parties, an hard core built up with immigrants purposely persecuted and deprived of rights, who would defend the criminal political class slave of the Vatican, in exchange of a little drop of protection. Over the past thirty years I have produced seventy films with the help of great Italian directors: from Comencini to Zeffirelli, from Rossellini to Campanile. And now with Tornatore. I leave to politicians the utopia of the Union for the Mediterranean. Also because my personal opinion is that it’s impossible to unite the Mediterranean with 27 partners. But this is in any case an issue that falls under the competence of the politician. Even if I may say that I quite agree with Gaddafi who recently gave a speech on this topic, arguing that it would be better to aim for a “five plus five” union.Italy gave and is able to give a unique contribution for the achievement of a true union among the peoples. And it is a concept that I assert not only because I know your country very well, as I studied in Italy, although in an American school, but because, as all of us from Maghreb have noted with some admiration, Italy signed a peace treaty with Libya through a line of coherent continuity in foreign policy of its heads of government during the recent decades, from Andreotti to Craxi, from Dini to Prodi, from D'Alema to Berlusconi. This has aroused the envy of Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco. The Heads of State of those countries have in fact wondered how it was possible that Italy has had the courage to recognize that colonialism was a historical mistake. And why, for instance, France was unable to do it.The ability of Italy to understand the dignity of peoples is appreciated and this is something that goes far beyond monetary compensation. The question is not about the five billion euros that will be assigned to Libya, but concerns the demonstration of the ability of your country to recognize the suffering and the dignity of self-determination of peoples. This is the central point, as shown for instance by the same still open issue of self-determination of the Palestinian people.For sixty years we all agree on the need to establish two states and two peoples between Israel and Palestine, but after sixty years two peoples and two states don’t exist.I think once again that this is a cultural issue. I take the cue from the situation in the region I know best, my region, the Maghreb. Over the last fifteen years the Maghreb was launched a takeover aiming at gaining the brains of our youth: a takeover that has opened a devastating problem that neither the Internet nor the newspapers or books are able to correct. Over the last fifteen years 250 Arab channels were established, from the Middle East, not Mediterranean nor Maghrebian in their tendency, Middle East oriented with a definite geopolitical orientation. Two hundred forty nine of these 250 channels are not secular, they are not open to other religions, they are not open to other cultures and influence in a massive way the youth of my region. A youth who constitute 65% of the population of the Maghreb and that is younger than 25 years old; young people who don’t read newspapers, don’t read books and that only now are starting to use the internet, but still marginally. Instead, this generation watches a lot of TV, approximately six hours a day.And there is no politician who is able to speak to his people for six hours a day.Compared to Europe, which has a more adult population and then already more informed, we note that the Europeans watch television approximately 3 hours and half a day. Given these figures, then the only possible consideration is that the young people of the Maghreb do not live in Casablanca, in Algeria, in Tunis and Tripoli, but they live on Al Jazeera, El Arabia, LBC and on other 249 channels.On the basis of these considerations, I felt as a duty the creation of a television of the Mediterranean, which actually sends another view of the world to the houses of mothers, wives and children of the Maghreb, allowing them to open their mind towards different cultural horizons from those forwarded by the other 249 televisions.Along with this need, however, there is another issue, equally urgent. It concerns the immigrants who die in the sea, or on the Libyan coast to come to Europe to seek happiness, wealth, food, survival. This problem is not resolved, which will tend to become increasingly serious. The economic crisis is helping to raise a wall against immigration, a very dangerous wall.The history of humanity and the human civilization is based on the human right to travel; to travel means understanding, reading, speaking other languages, understanding each other.If I had not studied abroad, I would not be here today.Yet our future leaders, who today are 25 years old and who count among its ranks the future leaders of the Arab world, haven’t the right to come to Europe to obtain a visa to stay, if they haven’t got important parents.This is an extremely dangerous reality in my opinion, because I think that if these young people do not know Rome, Venice, Paris, New York, Washington, someday it may not be a problem to go to war with a culture that is not their own and places that they do not know.It’s sufficient to look at the history of many dictators of the Arab world as Saddam Hussein for instance, the former president of Iraq had never traveled, had never seen an Italian film, had never seen a French film. That’s why it was easy for him to threaten the “destruction of the West", because he did not know and he was not able to understand other cultures but his own.That is why I believe it is essential that our leaders of tomorrow, if they aren’t open minded because they cannot physically travel, must travel at least with the imagination, through the television. A television open to dialogue. Not only Western television or just a pro-Islamic one from the Middle East, but a Mediterranean television. The North Africa which reflects in front of Italy counts over 90 million inhabitants: 40 millions in Algeria, 40 million in Morocco, 11 million in Tunisia, 5 million in Libya, 3 million in Mauritania. These are people who need, desire and have the will to be like all the other peoples of the world, to have access to education, culture, leisure, wealth and the right to travel.These people should not suffer on the contrary the economic protectionism that during this stage of crisis tends to reinforce itself in the most industrialized countries.The European protectionism would be an incalculable loss for Africa. It would definitely lead Europe to the loss of contacts with a whole continent. It is unthinkable that Libya alone can resolve the problem of immigration despite its courageous efforts, nor, I believe, we can be satisfied with the fact that China and India are economically occupying Africa, also because if Africa is separated from the Mediterranean and the North Africa is separated from the rest of the continent and from Europe, the consequences will be serious.For this reason a few days ago we launched together with Mediaset a new TV, through Arab-sat and Nile-sat satellite, the first Maghrebian television.A TV that is able to demonstrate that modernity and Islam are not incompatible; that in the Libyan, Tunisian, Moroccan and Algerian civil society, it’s sufficient to go to those countries to see, women do not go around veiled just like in all civil societies. They are modern women and this is not incompatible with Islam, as here in Italy is not incompatible to be Catholic and to be modern.Our youth write in Arabic and use the computer. This is the Maghreb and the Mediterranean: it is not a coincidence that Italy is a partner of this television. I can say that after having met all the heads of state who count in the region and having heard by all that Italy is not a problem. There are some problems with France unfortunately for Algeria and Morocco but not with Italy.This television from June will be visible on the Hotbird satellite, and therefore may be able to speak to twenty million of North Africans in Europe who have no place on television.And I hope that this TV can carry out a transmission with Medidea in order to send messages to the young people who otherwise wouldn’t read and to make cultural content available to our youth.In fact what I think is that if politicians are not in able to create the Union of the Mediterranean, the people through culture are able to carry it out.I remember the example of the film Gandhi. A film that has done a lot for the young people, has disclosed that the messages between them and the figure of Gandhi, much more than the thousands of conferences in the world held for years about him.The same could be for the film Amadeus: how many young people went to buy a disc of Mozart after seeing the film Amadeus?I could make at least a hundred examples of this kind. Culture in short, has an extraordinary burden and television is the greatest weapon today's culture has.We also know the negative outcomes of the TV, if badly used. But I hope that we will use it in the best possible way. We will try to do this with European authors and film directors, creating job opportunities. These are the reasons why I thought to work with a great Italian director such as Giuseppe Tornatore. Our meeting has brought together all of these reasons. Tornatore wanted to make a film about his city, Bagheria. As he was not allowed to film in Bagheria, I proposed to rebuild his town in Tunisia. It was an almost natural decision, since Sicily and Tunisia, are inhabited by the same people, by the same faces. In fact when we did the first survey, Tornatore immediately noted that the today’s Tunisians resemble much of the Sicilians of the past. And so began the creation of the film Baarìa, which is actually in production. And in that set, even if the story is set in Sicily, the extras and actors are nearly all Tunisians who have helped to rebuild Sicily on the African soil.This for me is the Mediterranean partnership, and this is a concrete measure.
