Anna Zatonskih defeated Sabina Foisor in the final round to get to the playoff. In the playoff, she once again defeated Foisor again (twice) to earn a spot in the final.
In the men's playoff, the biggest shock occurred when GM-elect Shankland defeated Onischuk 1.5 - 0.5 in the playoff to move on. In the last 2 days, Onischuk drew Shankland twice with white and lost once with black. This in itself is quite an accomplishment.
